According to the 2020 Census, the Regency has a population of 548,191. It has experienced a population increase in recent decades (though not between 2010 and 2020) and has developed to become the largest of Greater Denpasar’s suburban areas. It includes Bali’s most densely inhabited tourist areas, such as Kuta, Badung, Canggu, Jimbaran, Legian, Nuda Dua, Mengwi, Seminyak, and Uluwatu. The northern half of the Regency is relatively unpopulated, whereas the west of Denpasar, from Jimbaran to Canggu, is densely populated. The Regency is home to Ngurah Rai International Airport.

According to 2001 statistics, Badung Regency has a population of up to 332.200 people, with an average population density of 720 persons per square kilometre, with the majority living in the southern section as the centre of tourism activity.

Most of the inhabitants work in the tourism industry in the south and as farmers in the north. Agriculture is strongly developed in the northern portion of Badung, although tourism is the primary source of revenue in the area around Kuta, Kerobokan, Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa, and Jimbaran. As a result, Badung is the only regency in Bali with the highest income from tourism.
