Atuh Beach Nusa Penida is one of the most stunning beaches in Bali.

It’s a bit of a tough drive with a short hike down to the beach but it’s completely worth it!

How to get to Atuh Beach Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is not known for it’s soft roads and easy access, the roads to Atuh Beach are very unforgiving.

Loose gravel and potholes are abundant as you drive to Atuh beach.

Even though helmets are not required in Bali if you are traveling Nusa Penida make sure to grab one.

You can take a day trip by speedboat to Nusa Penida and tour the sights for the day with a guide before returning back to Bali in the evening.

The drive to Atuh Beach is quite scenic and best accessed by motorbike or Moped.

There are access stairs on both the left and the right sides of the bay. however there is free parking on the left and a minor parking fee on the right of IDR10,000.

Motorbike prices are slightly more than the mainland costing around IDR70,000 including a full tank.

When to go to

Heading to Atuh beach you need to keep the tides in mind.

At low tide the rocks are completely exposed and not so picturesque.

Whereas at high tide when the water is completely in all you can see is beautiful sand and the ocean.

Sunrise is great for reflections on the water as it rises through the arch making for stunning lanscape photos.

Sunset however is not ideal in the bay as the sun sets of the cliff.

Atuh Beach

Atuh Beach on Nusa Penida is few places in this world that truly takes your breath as soon as you arrive.

The top of the stairs immediately hits you with a beautiful view.

An arch runs along the rocks spreading out into the water

The huge sheer drop-off of the cliffs make it feels as though you are almost completely isoated

…and the amphitheater-like white sandy beach at the base… wow.

It takes around 10 minutes to walk down to the beach which you will find to be fairly easy however the trek back up does make you realize how steep it really is.

Don’t let that stop you though Atuh beach is entirely worth the walk.

Surprisingly there are a number of small vendors on the beach selling coconuts, drinks and other food.

Cliff Jumping

At Atuh beach you will find some of the best cliff jumping at the arch however it is fairly shallow to the ocean floor, always check the area prior to jumping.

Blue Lagoon is much safer when it comes to depth.

The reason most people are less aware of the existence of Atuh beach due to lack of promotion over the last few years.

Atuh beach is quite far away from common tourism areas in Bali such Kuta.

Because many tourists are not aware of Atuh beach Nusa Penida, this makes it one of the more quiet beaches in the country.

This however is changing

… Big promotions are happening in the tourism area promoting Nusa Penida which will in turn be promoting Atuh beach as one of the hidden Bali beaches, it will become one of the most famous beaches due to it’s uniqueness.

The Atmosphere on Nusa Penida is quite different to that of mainstream Bali with a more laid back attitude.
